About the Position

Betches Media is seeking a part-time Weekend Entertainment writer who will write daily pop culture content for the Betches site (celebrity, TV, movies, award shows, etc). Candidates who live and breathe pop culture and who are “in the know” about entertainment headlines will have the most fun in this role, which will report to the Entertainment editor and work closely with all editorial team members.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, self-sufficient entertainment writer (with bylines at entertainment news outlets or women’s media outlets), who is quick and efficient. You should have sound writing skills, amazing attention to detail, a strong understanding of SEO, breaking news experience, a proficiency in Google Analytics, and a strong journalistic background with an emphasis on self-publishing, as well as an interest in thinking outside the box when it comes to pitching and story ideation.

Responsibilities

  • Write and self-edit timely entertainment stories and evergreen content during evenings and weekends

  • Produce 3-4 timely news stories a day around trending entertainment, celebrity, and pop culture news

  • Diligently track all things entertainment, pop culture, viral news, and TikTok/social media trends throughout the day

  • Work closely with the the Entertainment editor on story assignments

  • Ensure all content aligns with Betches editorial standards

  • Be an enthusiastic member of the team, continuously offering fresh ideas and pitches

  • Cover awards shows, breaking news, and other live entertainment events as needed

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant writing experience for an online publication with bylines for examples

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. entertainment news and pop culture

  • A passion for celebrities and influencers, the entertainment industry, and TikTok

  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, including photos and meta descriptions

  • Experience with self-publishing and self-editing

  • Quick and efficient with breaking news stories

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and passionate about Betches Media

  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback

  • A strong understanding of the Betches voice and what makes a Betches Story

  • Capable of working within tight deadlines and ability to work flexible hours

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Breaking news experience and affiliate marketing experience a plus

Expected Hours:

  • Saturday: 12pm to 5pm EST

  • Sunday: 12pm to 5pm EST

  • Monday & Tuesday: 3pm to 8pm EST

  • Wednesday: 4pm to 8pm EST

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $25 an hour.
