ICYMI, be sure to check out the replay HERE! In the meantime, here are three fun lessons about social media we learned from Office Hours this week:

TikTok provides more than just dance trends.

“TikTok is both entertaining and educational,” says Katie Welch, who has worked in the beauty industry for many years and now uses TikTok as a platform to educate young women aspiring to work in the industry. “You can look at hashtags like #careeradvice or #careergoals for inspiration!”

Katie has also witnessed how TikTok can transform your career, especially if you’re a student or recent grad searching for a job or internship. She says, “One individual told me, ‘TikTok changed my life.’ This student came across tips for interviews, career development, healthy habits, and more that she was able to incorporate into her life! It’s fascinating and so meaningful.”

TikTok can help you stand out during the job search.

If you’re looking for an internship or job right now and wondering how you can stand out in a sea of applicants, you’re not alone! Katie says TikTok can be an amazing tool for getting noticed and standing out from the crowd. “I saw someone on TikTok who wanted a particular job, and she created a post speaking about her qualifications, almost like a verbal resume,” says Katie. “We actually ended up meeting! I interviewed her and she was super talented and bright.”

HCM co-founder Windsor Western agrees that TikTok can be an awesome tool for standing out during the interview process. “If I’m evaluating you as a candidate, I’m looking at the social platforms you have, your LinkedIn profile, and all of your social media info first before I even open your resume!” she says. So, if you’re looking to land that dream job, making a TikTok video expressing your passion just might be the key to scoring an interview.

Use Clubhouse to network with dream connections.

If you haven’t heard of Clubhouse, it’s a new, unique app where you can listen to speakers from all over the world through voice messages! You can hop into a virtual “room” and connect with just about anyone, from the CEOs of big companies to your favorite musicians and TV stars. According to Katie and Windsor, Clubhouse can also be an *amazing* tool for networking if you’re just starting out in your career.

“Clubhouse is the great equalizer,” says Katie. “You can find and listen to people you’d normally never have the chance to hear from. You can also raise your hand and ask a question! Find people or clubs in any industry you’re interested in, and start following them,” she recommends. By using Clubhouse to your advantage, you just might have the opportunity to chat with a dream company or mentor — prepare your questions and get ready to network!

We loved Katie and Windsor’s tips for how to harness the power of TikTok and Clubhouse while growing your career. In case you missed Office Hours this week, you can catch up on the replay here and be sure to follow @generationhired on Instagram to stay up-to-date on future events!
